Regional Film Office Network
In recent years New Zealanders have come to appreciate the significance of filmmaking for their country. They acknowledge its important contribution to their sense of national identity and culture, and take real pride in the achievement of their storytellers, actors, musicians and photographers – indeed all those excelling in their chosen craft.
Many international filmmakers have commented on the support and encouragement they get from New Zealanders wherever they are on location. For many international filmmakers, it’s hard to know whether it’s the country or its people that feature foremost in the decision to return.
Local authorities and district councils in every region offer their full support to the film industry. Many have implemented film-friendly policies in conjunction with Film New Zealand.
Film-friendly policies include:
- consistent location application procedures for filming on land, streets, parks and buildings belonging to local government or councils;
- inclusion of filmmaking provisions and support in their annual plans;
- support of applications through the Resource Management consent process.
Many regions throughout the country have also established their own film offices.
All these Regional Film Offices offer:
- databases for location and production management services, locations, facilities and crew;
- hosting and recce services;
- in-depth location research and sourcing location photos.
Regional Film Offices are partners with Film New Zealand. Where a region does not have its own office, Film New Zealand can help with information about locations and personnel.
