Daughter of God
When an arranged marriage is sprung upon an Iranian-Kiwi daughter, she must either dishonour family tradition or lose the woman she loves.
Zahra, a young Iranian woman, lives with her Muslim family in Auckland. In love with her Māori girlfriend, Aroha, she is unaware of the marriage arranged for her. She is therefore devastated when this is revealed upon arrival of "the guests".
Her mother Sedigheh, who had witnessed the girls kissing earlier, tries to comfort and convince her, expressing that she too had to do this.
But Zahra is different. She refuses, enraging her father who has a violent outburst. Desperate, she calls Aroha - who accompanied by her mother - comes to Zahra's immediate rescue.
As Zahra is leaving, she tries unsuccessfully to take her mother. Just as she is stepping out into the night, Sedigheh calls after her, giving her her blessing.
